English is always considered to be a high-scoring subject in CBSE 12th final examinations. Students who want to score well, should be aware of all the details covering the English syllabus. Recently CBSE revised the English syllabus. Hence, English exam preparation will strengthen the possibility of ace competitive exams.
Due to the pandemic situation, the board decided to reduce the syllabus by 30% for the previous academic year. I.E. 2020-2021. But for this academic year, the CBSE book categorized that there will not be any reduction yet there is a division of syllabus. This is termed Term 1 & 2.
Class 12 English has two parts of the syllabus. They are
- English core
- English electives

English core for Term – I:-
READING COMPREHENSION (2 passages):-
- Unseen passage. It could be descriptive/literary/factual/discursive/persuasive. For that, you have 8 marks.
- Case-based on some unseen passage. This could be Factual. For that, there are 6 marks.
CREATIVE WRITING SKILLS:-
- Short writing tasks will have 3 marks. In that, you will be asked to do
- Notice writing
- Classified advertisements.
- Long writing tasks have 5 marks. In that, you will be asked to write
- Article writing
- Letter to an Editor. This is based on giving opinions or suggestions on the issues of public interest.
LITERATURE:-
This section includes literary – prose/poetry from any seen texts. This is to enhance comprehension, analyzing, appreciation, extrapolation, and inferences. You will be given questions based on the texts to assess things like appreciation, comprehension, inferences, and so on.
- Book – Flamingo (Prose). You will be awarded 11 marks for this. The topics include,
- The last lesson
- Lost spring
- Deepwater
- Book – Flamingo (Poetry). My mother at Sixty-six
- An elementary school classroom in the slum.
- Keeping quiet.
- Book – Vistas (Prose). For this, you will be awarded 7 marks. The topics are,
- The third level
- The enemy
English Core Term – II:-
READING COMPREHENSION: (2 passages):-
- Unseen passage. It could be descriptive/literary/factual/discursive/persuasive. For that, you have 8 marks.
- Case based on some unseen passage. This could be Factual. For that, there are 6 marks.
CREATIVE WRITING SKILLS:-

- Formal and informal invitation cards. Or it will be
- Replies to the invitation(s)
- Long writing tasks have 5 marks. In that, you will be asked to write
- Job or Application Letter
- Report writing.
LITERATURE:-
This section includes literary – prose/poetry from any seen texts. This is to enhance comprehension, analyzing, appreciation, extrapolation, and inferences. You will be given questions based on the texts to assess things like appreciation, comprehension, inferences, and so on.
- Book – Flamingo (Prose). You will be awarded 11 marks for this. The topics include,

- Indigo
- Book – Flamingo (Poetry).

- Aunt Jennifer’s tigers
- Book – Vistas (Prose). For this, you will be awarded 7 marks. The topics are,

- On the face of it
- Evans tries an O level.
