It’s dark at four o clock, the weather has dramatically dropped, and the Halloween decorations are slowly being changed over to tinsel and colourful lights- in other words, it’s drawing closer to Christmas. It’s most people’s favourite holiday season, and despite the harsh weather and dark mornings and evenings, the months of November and December bring people together as they begin the countdown to the most festive time of the year. A huge part of the Christmas and New Year spirit is held in the home, as people spend hours ensuring that their home is cosy, warm and inviting- full of laughter, good times and of course, gorgeous Christmas decorations. It would be truthful to say that most homeowners begin preparing for the holiday season months in advance and are usually counting down the days until they can put their Christmas tree up. As your home is a vital part of Christmas, here at We Buy Any House we have compiled our top tips on how to get your home ready for Christmas.

    Declutter:

Before you invest time in adding more to your home, perhaps it’s best to get a hold of what already exists in your home. Sometimes, the sudden surge of decorative items across your home can seem slightly overwhelming, and in addition to the already existing items, your home may begin to look cluttered. Prior to spoiling your loved ones with even more toys, clothes or books, perhaps it’s best to see what you already have. You can sort things into three collections: charity donations, for sale or throw away. After Christmas, you don’t want your home to feel suffocated, so it’s worthwhile to make more room in your home.

    Have a Deep Clean:

Once you have got rid of all the clutter in your home, it’s time to conduct a deep cleaning before you begin adding decorations and your house becomes full. Around the festive season, cleaning becomes admittedly harder. Between all the socialising, festive activities, and the fact that decorations make your standard cleaning routine harder, carrying out a deep clean beforehand is a great way to gain a baseline clean which will hopefully tide you over until the New Year- and until then you will have to do some top ups.

    Get the Spare Bedrooms Ready:

If it’s your turn to host the holiday seasons, then it’s inevitable that you will have guests staying over at your house. Before the festive season gets fully underway, it’s important to prepare your home for your guest’s arrival- prior to them getting there. Your guests should feel extra comfortable in your home, as you want your guest bedroom to feel like a home away from home. Ensure to add layered fabrics, textures, and indulge in things such as warm lighting and homely touches such as candles.

    Conduct an Inventory:

If you’ve got people coming around for Christmas, then it’s important to ensure that you have everything you need in order to be the best host possible. Not only is the lead up to the festive season a time to get your food and drinks shopping done, but it’s also a time to make sure you have other things sorted out such as basic items like crockery, an adequate dining table and wineglasses.

    Winter-Proof Your Home:

When preparing your home for winter, it’s a good idea to ensure that your home is winter proof. You want your home to be cosy and inviting, so that you and your guests feel at home and at ease. It’s a good idea to check that all the seals work, including the doors and windows. Additionally, you can add blankets, throws and get the fire going to create a more cosy atmosphere.

    Stock Up the Medicine Cabinet:

As the weather drops and the seasons change, it’s inevitable that some of us will fall unlucky to the Christmas cold. Feeling under the weather around the festive time is no less than ideal, so it’s worthwhile to ensure that your medicine cabinet is stocked up with various remedies and potions- so that you can nurse yourself back to health before the true festivities and partying gets underway.
